Danny is a Director, Writer and Teacher with a range of experience particularly in Community Theatre and TIE. Danny works as a Lecturer in Applied Theatre in the Theatre and Performance Department at Goldsmiths. Previously he was Director and CEO at The Orpheus Centre, which makes Performing Arts work with disabled young people; he was also Senior Theatre Officer at Arts Council England’s London office with a strategic lead on young people. Prior to that he was Director of Education at Theatre Royal Stratford East and Associate Director at Theatre Centre.

In 1926, Shoemaker Ab Solomons drew a doodle on the wage-packet he gave to his wife Celie.  Over the next 55 Years, Ab drew a wage-packet cartoon for Celie every week. This extraordinary chronicle of East London Jewish life is brought to life by Danny Braverman  – Ab’s Great-Nephew. In 2013  Wot? No Fish!!  began its life touring to theatres, schools, community venues and festivals, starting with Rich Mix with a tremendously well received run at Summerhall at the Edinburgh Festival, garnering the Brian Way Award for Best New Play for Children and Young People. Since then show has played in the USA, Australia and all over the world. The show was at BAC for a return run in July 2017 and off to Perth Festival later this year, having also recently been to China and Germany. People everywhere love it.

I don’t so much work with Danny as work in parallel with him. This means having lunch and discussing ideas, plans and how projects are progressing; sharing with someone who has similar values, passions, skills and areas of expertise. 45 years’ knowledge of the other person and how they work has been an enormous privilege to me personally and professionally. (We have been best friends since we were 11).
